Monday 26th October – First Day in Kathmandu…

Good Morning from Kathmandu! A beautiful day….

There are still a few people to arrive and we start ‘officially at four thirty this afternoon. So after breakfast, three of us went off to explore a sacred Hindu Temple located on the banks of the Bagmati River. It is a sprawling collection of temples, ashrams, images and inscriptions raised over the centuries along the banks of the sacred Bagmati river and is included as one of the seven monument groups in UNESCO’s cultural heritage sites. One of the major Festivals of the temple is Maha Shivaratri on which day over 700,000 devotees visit here.

Only Hindus are allowed inside the main temple but it is a vast area with much to see and experience. It is a place of open air cremations and funeral pyres were burning constantly which during our visit.

The entrance to The Temple.

Sadhus were only too pleased to have their photo taken…..for a small fee, of course.

Early evening and back at The Vajra we had our first Yoga practice in the beautiful Pagoda Room. It’s great to be a student again and I immersed myself well and truly in my practice 🙏

Inside the Pagoda Room with an amazing ceiling….

…. and an incredible view at the top of the hill of Swayambhunath with its well known stupa. More about that tomorrow.

Now, time for bed – an early start and another exciting day to look forward to!
